Drill Cores
|
| Drill cores are made when geologists drill deep into the Earth's surface to
find out what kind of rocks are beneath the surface. Diamond teeth on the drill
bit cut through the rock and create a cylindrical shaped rock sample. At old abandoned mine shafts or test pits, rockhounds can sometimes find drill cores that were left behind by mining operators or prospectors.
